Two Certifications in One
Ohio operators now have the option to achieve Ohio EPA certification through the Professional Operator certification program. This path accelerates your path to certification in Ohio and can help catapult your water career.
The certification exam is easy to schedule and many times operators can expect additional compensation for acquiring and maintaining multiple certifications. Make sure to check with your supervisor or union representative to see if you are eligible!
Step 1: Determine Your Exam Level

Step 2: Confirm Eligibility
Review the eligibility criteria to determine whether you may sit for the exam. If you have any questions, contact the Ohio EPA at opcert@epa.state.oh.us or 1-866-411-6728.

Step 3: Complete PO Application Process
Assemble documentation and complete your application online through the PO Portal. Your application will be reviewed within 30 days of receipt, and you will be notified if any additional information is needed.
Step 4: Schedule Your Exam
Once you have completed your PO application, you will receive an exam schedule notice from our testing partner, PSI. Complete the steps as outlined in your notice.
Once you have scheduled and passed the exam, your will have officially earned your Professional Operator designation.
Step 5: Ohio EPA
Submit your exam results and Ohio EPA application for certification, including any applicable fees required by the Ohio EPA.
